Training Description
In this training, participants will be introduced to the terms food justice and food insecurity. Research shows a significant link between brain health and nutrition. However, food insecurity and food injustice are barriers to emotional and whole-body wellness and nutritional lifestyles that may be beneficial in the Black community.
Attendees will learn to identify food injustice, the systemic issues and negative implications food injustice plays in the Black community, as well as, explore how to connect with communities to advocate for adequate nutrition and reduce mental health symptoms.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:
Identify how nutrition is linked to emotional wellness, physical wellness and resilience in the Black community
Identify 3 dietary lifestyles and how they are impacted by food justice
Identify food injustice and food insecurity in Black the community
Formulate intervention methods to encourage food justice
Meet the Presenter:
Reynelda Jones @a_solution_b
Reynelda Jones is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist, Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. She is also a public speaker and the author of the Worthy of Royalty Self-Care product line and the Co-author of Glowing Up In Private Practice e-Book. Currently, she provides individual counseling at her private practice, A Solution B, LLC located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Ms. Jones specializes in treating women struggling with chronic stress, anxiety, behaviors and symptoms related to traumatic experiences using traditional talk therapy infused with holistic approaches related to nutritional therapy and environmental wellness for physical and emotional health.
She also provides clinical supervision to recent graduates. She is also a member/Co-Owner of the Grand Rapids Food Cooperative. She has been featured on Therapy For Black Girls, Women At Risk International (WAR), ToastFried, Bustle Magazine, Natural Awakenings Magazine and more.

Melody Li @MelodyHopeLi
Melody Li (佢/ any) is a colony-born migrant and settler on Turtle Island embodying a number of structural privileges. They are a queer therapist and speaker of Color, mental health liberation activist, and decolonial troublemaker.
They created Inclusive Therapists: a social justice-oriented mental health directory and community that celebrates the strengths & centers the needs of marginalized communities.
They also founded Mental Health Liberation, the sibling non-profit bridging BI&POC with quality therapy and empowering clinicians of Color.
Melody offers collective care and education focusing on decolonizing mental health and healing racialized trauma.
